After around a year of wrangling about whether it should be banned or not, Manhunt 2 finally escaped from its captors and hid itself on the shelves of stores.
Ok so for the past year Rockstar have been producing a cut down version of the game which has allowed them to appeal and release the game with an 18 certificate.
The new, cut down version of the game doesn't take away from the gameplay, but makes the whole experiance feel even more seedy and wrong than it would have with the uncut scenes.
Anyways, to the game itself! The original Manhunt saw you encouraged to inflict unknown horrors in an attempt to survive a game show, the new one sees you escaping a lunatic asylum and being guided to inflict the same horrors in doing so.
The mechanics of the game itself are clever enforcing you to think about how to sneak up to various guards and other characters without them noticing in order to perform an execution move. You must use the dark and tactics, just as per the first Manhunt, in order to succesfully kill the various subjects you need to get past.
Unfortunately, the game just doesn't work well anymore. The first game was a success despite its media attention, but the second simply has not moved on enough and is purely riding the wave of media attention in order to sell itself.
It's a real shame that Rockstar have not spent the time on this title to modernise it, but that is probably why it was not released on the major next gen platforms (360 and PS3) and purely on the Wii.
Maybe we'll see Manhunt 3 in another 4 years and perhaps Rockstar will have gone back to the drawing board and brought the gameplay upto the standard it should be and this will be its selling point...
